Lesson: Safe Talking in Cyberspace


Student Activities:
  1. We will practice together as class in identifying mistakes that students made in an example cyberchat.
  2. On your own, you will highlight mistakes that students made in an example cyberchat. 
Your Job:

  • Describe some benefits of chat and messaging in cyberspace
  • Explain that people in cyberspace are not always who they seem to be.
  • Explain rules for safe chatting and messaging.

Student Activities: Internet Safety Poster

Your Job:
  1. You will create an Internet Safety Poster in Comic Life showing an understanding of our 3 Main Internet Safety Rules:
  1. Always tell an adult (when you go online). 
  2. Don't go and meet anyone in person that you meet on the Internet.
  3. Never give out personal information. 

• You will use the following Image Sites:


• You will learn how to use Comic Life to make the poster with a partner.
• You will know what to do if they come to a Bad Site.
• You will learn how to use the COMMAND key to copy an image off the web.
• You will learn how to use the COMMAND key and TAB key to switch back and forth between Applications.
• You will learn how to EXPORT your Poster to iPhoto.


• Each Poster should have the following:
  • Your First Names
  • Your Class (example: 3C)
  • The Rule

• Find the App, Top-It:




Your Job:
  1. You will learn how to work with the iPad.
  2. You will review a video to find out how to quickly find applications on the iPad.
  3. You will go over norms and expectations for working in a group with the iPad.
  4. You will learn how to hook up headphones so the whole group can hear the book.
  5. You will learn how to share a Math Game with a group.
